I made this post to explain to people why I make fun of her design, and since people are confused why me and many others are overly critical of her design. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. If you love the Light Fury’s design, that’s okay! You are allowed to like things others don’t, similarly you are allowed to dislike things that others like. It’s human nature to disagree. But it can’t be denied the fact they designed her with the priority of looking “female”, interviews and excerpts from the art book confirm this. If you are okay with that fact, no problem, but some people just hold a bigger company like Dreamworks to a higher standard when it comes to design. Especially, when the character looks out of place with the others in that universe. Toothless is guilty of this but he makes up for it in his personality, and the fact that some of his design choices make sense to his species. The Light Fury’s is a heavily plagiarized version of Toothless, but instead of giving her unique design elements, they wanted to make her features more feminine. I just feel like that was a lazy choice as there were so many opportunities for her to be more distinct from Night Furies. You can’t think about Light Furies without comparing them to Night Furies. If her scales were black, the average person would just think she’s a female Night Fury. I feel that she should stand out enough where she’s her own species but still have a design that is reminiscent of a Night Fury. She had so much potential.
