Obviously, I didn’t go into this movie with expectations that this was going to change the face of video game adaptations. I grew up with Minecraft and have always thought during the process of making this that how in the hell are they going to make this movie? I don’t know what expectations were for people who like Minecraft or what not but if they didn’t take an honest look, they were never going to be pleased. So I went in, sat down, and got ready for chicken jockey, and that’s exactly what I got. Am I going to objectively say this movie is good? No, because it’s OBJECTIVELY not. But SUBJECTIVELY, I had a blast. I don’t care if that makes me take my cinephile card away, that’s fine because I’d rather be in the group that can learn to have fun than be the kid in the corner. There’s also some neat concepts here and there and a lot of the CGI without the humans is pretty solid as well. Would have I preferred it to be fully animated? Probably, but what we got is something that you can’t take seriously and once that is accepted you’ll have a lot of fun. This will also be a huge money maker which will benefit theaters so much, which I’m very happy about.
